A thread for suggestions of things that people with our interests absolutely must do before they die. I'll start with the Falles (Fallas) of Valencia 5 days of virtually non-stop pyrotechnics and parades Link2 Link2 and ending with "La cremà" Video's and photos really don't do it justice, you simply have to be there.

Martin.

As I'm fast approaching middle age, I've done about half of the things I wanted to do before I died. None of them turned out at all like what I expected.

Be a rock star. That one never quite worked out. I spent a few happy years in a band that played local clubs, bars and so on. It was great fun. Club owners don't care what you sound like, as long as you bring a large crowd that buys lots of beer, preferably on a Monday night. smile

Ride A-Line in Whistler bike park. That was actually pretty fun, but it was expensive. It's nowhere near as lethal as it looks on video, and the locals call it Gay Line.

There are others, but those are the two best I can think of. My experience is that if you ever find yourself living the dream, it suddenly doesn't seem that special any more.

Some things I still want to do:
See America. Ride across it on a motorbike or something. :)
See the Northern Lights.
Survive the collapse of Western civilisation.
Have kids. Or maybe not.

Do it on a Unicycle Link2

I'm 40 now and have done a fair bit in my life (travelled much of the world, abseiled down various buildings, blown things up and learnt to ride a unicycle:-) ) but experiences have to be pretty special to qualify for being a "thing to do before you die". It's not necessarily about "living the dream" but more about an experience you'll never forget.

Martin.

Well, I'll never forget having all of my wisdom teeth removed in one go, or the date that ended in nearly getting hit by a train. But I suppose you meant special in a good way, and I'm kind of at a loss there.

You beat me to it, Steve, I was going to say shoot a dentist or three.....

EDIT: the quote function seems to have malfunctioned here.

Moderator Edit: Fixed. You have to put your text after the /quote bracket. Sometimes it's a long way down and appears to not be there.

Wisdom teeth really? That painful?

Hmmm, I absolutely must pull a "Slim Pickens" before I kick the bucket, perhaps over Moscow, maybe Beijing.

Better to be dead then red! Link2 definately on my bucket list.

I would like to do the following:

1. build a plane with a fully functioning radial engine.

2. Find the guy who keeps putting dirt under my fingernails and kick his ass.
