Revolutions... Animals dropping dead all over... Massive solar flares, economies going into the pooper, earthquakes.

I don't know, just seems a bit odd for all of this to be happening at once, don't you think?

Eh.. same shit different century.
From the looks of history, this has happened before, and I doubt it will be the last time.

The main differance between now and then is regarding the solar flares, although a few massive ones did happen, we weren't that reliant on technology back then, so that might be something that will present a massive world wide issue. (seeing how everything is computerized and electronics and electrical/electronic is used almost everywhere)

The most certain characteristic of random events is that they appear to lump together in a way that appear non-random to the human brain.

Also some of the events may be connected in some way. Rvolutions and economy tend to be linked. Animals, weather and solar activity can be linked. Earthquakes, volcanic activity and weather can also be linked.

The is always an explanation for everything. That does not mean we are not going to die horribly, just that there will be a nice explanation for it.

IIRC there is a link between volcanoes and severe weather, as the ash particles act as nucleation sites for rain.

Not just that, but volcano aerosols reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the earth's surface, which can cause a global temperature drop. From what I remember this happened back in 18-something, causing a mini ice-age and famine all over Europe.

Revolutions have been happening in the old colonies since after World War 2, the global economy has had several recessions in the last century, and animals have been dying "mysteriously" from released toxins since the industrial revolution. Like GBD says, this has all happened before, and it will happen again. You're just getting old enough to start noticing! wink

if the world meets an abrupt end in 2012, I wont have to pass the last semester of calculus 4 or field physics 3.

Fingers crossed, let's hope.

Yea but then you won't know what lies over that hill!

The reason for this thought is our massive information stream, you get all the news at once, not months later told by a man riding on a horse...

Its always been like this ;)

Look at Chaos Theory: Everything that seems to be random up close looks more uniform and more readily explained as you get farther back

revolution and economic collapse may not immediately seem like related issues, but in the end one ends up being the partial cause or result of the other. Same with weather and animals and animals,
the only thing different is the solar flares but it could be normal but until this century ave we been able to both accurately measure them, and to realize the effect they have as we advance

-just my two cents
