Could a Half bridge driver be used to create a Royer oscillator?

I have quite a few questions. I lashed together a quick schematic of a Royer oscillator design, similar to the regular ZVS driver.

Now, My question is, could a half bridge driver be used directly with this? The driver I want to use already has a schmitt trigger built into the hi and low inputs, and seems like it could work for said purpose. Here's the bridge driver link;

Also, why does there need to be a transformer, then the work coil? I've talked to a few people about it but they just say it won't work, or will blow up. Does the transformer act as a current limitation? I thought that's what the inductor does.

Anyway, please give me advice, on if this would work or not... Thank you!

Hi,

There were some attempts to increase efficiency of the circuit by utilizing gate drivers. You don't need half bridge driver though, just two low-side drivers like UCC37322's.

Most attempts resulted in increased instabilities in the circuit though, and it tended to undergo parasitic oscillations and self-destruct. Large, slow pull-up resistance actually helps prevent this.

To decrease heating in your resistors and speed up the turn-on, you can use single transistor "active pullup" circuits, google for them.

Couldn't shortened wire also help prevent parasitic oscillations? Ferrite beads and stuff like that sounds like they could help. And, what exactly is a pullup resistor? From what I understand, does it prevent said oscillations from happening?

the pullup resistor I am talking about is the high-power 470ohm resistor in original flyback driver schematic (IIRC), which pulls the gate up (feedback diode can only pull it down). I suggested you can replace the resistors with active-pullup circuit to reduce the losses.

Ferrite beads in series with driver outputs might help, if not you might need to use a large gate resistance as well which would defeat the purpose of gate drivers. Gate drivers have the benefit though of driving the gate much harder to 0 than the diode-drive.

Could you point me out to an easy pull up circuit? Googling it, I can't really seem to find anything xD
