This circuit works pretty well in the simulator. It is pretty simple to set up, and always starts reliably. I don't know about real life, but it's worth a try.
the bottom transformer inductance is 400uH, 1:2 ratio.
the top is 400uH, 1:1 ratio. I'd say a 6 part count is pretty good for zero current switching. :)
