designer intent is always best left to a qualified shrink....but at great risk to my pride ill guess that at 16Gohms, its not there for voltage measurement, the resistors are there to keep the caps happy (with out heavy loading 3-5mA out is what i think this was meant for)....

given my previous line of reasoning, i think the resistors keep the caps alive, the caps control the ripple, and at 3mA and 50kV this equals 150W, 50kV/16Gohms = 3uA of bleed current, thus 1000 times less then the main current of 3mA. 3uA is just to little for measurement or feedback, therefore this, at the least can definatively be ruled out.

My crystal ball and tarrot cards do not lead me to believe the RC ladder is meant for voltage measurement.

OK, Patrick, I get where you're coming from (and your other threads make fascinating reading), the caps control ripple.

So where does the bottom end of the capacitor stack connect to? It definitely seems to lead to the red wire at the bottom of the board.

It seems a logical conclusion (to an amateur like me) that this goes to a meter, but, if not, where does it go? It obviously goes somewhere.....

What is the cold end of the capacitor chain attached to I wonder? Earth, or something else?

Well at least someone noticed my greatness... shades
(I'm hoping to get all this HV Probe stuff finished to the point where I have my probes and others can then copy for themselves.)

you are right to question where it goes...

I would imagine it to goto the chassis ground, power ground or earth ground, and the bottom most pin of the Multiplier should also be tied to this exact same point.

I tried inputting values of 3mA and 30kHz and the figures look more acceptable.

The bottom of the capacitor/resistor chain connects to the black resistor at the bottom of the board (120R). The other side of this resistor connects to the red wire, and, via capacitors, to the black wires which I'd assumed are ground, then, via more capacitors, to the yellow wire which is also connected to the bottom of the multiplier.

Would the red wire be the output to the over-current protection circuit? or a voltmeter?

EDIT: Where might the yellow lead go to? (connected to the bottom of the multiplier)

I'm working on it, I want to make sure it is accurate. Give me a day or so.
