I would measure it using a 1/4 loop of #40 wire between the bnc and ground of a rented 10ghz o-scope.

I think you need either dry nitrogen, carbon dioxide, or hydrogen for your blow-down quenching gas, with an inline desicant dryer, especially if your trying to reduce jitter and make picosecond rise time measurements.

(and perhaps a constant velocity or constant pressure valve, this part is just a guess)

but this is just advice.

too complicated for any mechanical system. I need pressurized hydrogen. has there been any research on magnet + sparkgaps? How would you design such a sparkgap?

It's not pure, it has water vapour in it. It needs drying.

Pass it through a bunch of silica gel, should dry it up nicely.

remember that electrolyzing H2O generates oxygen too. Oxygen is at the positive terminal, hydrogen at the negative. It's a simple matter to separate them though.

Make sure you use a 1 way valve on the hydrogen! 2 parts H to 1 part O is perfectly explosive.
