'U' core ferrites will still be developed for a long time to come. We will be able to 'wind our own' for years to come. CRTs have had their day but ferrites will be around for a while.

Flyback transformers will most likely soon become obsolete. Their main applications are to supply the hv in CRTs, which are rarely made even today. Unlike tubes I don't think many people will keep them as collectables. Tubes are still used and collected because some say they reproduce audio better and others see them as something cool looking or retro.
I don't think many people outside of the 4hv community will find flybacks very interesting visual. I guess if you want to insure the future for the flyback transformer you better build one into a very high quality amp.
Maybe...in another 10 or 20 years....but not right now.. You can get lots of 10 pieces for something like 20$ each on ebay.....10 of them should last you for a while...
