Sucks to kill meters...I toasted one, and semi-killed another.

My one meter I got for $75 (sold on amazon originally at $150) the voltage metering doesnt work anymore. Stupid to hook a transformer that did over 1000V to it. Dead. Everything else is fine.

Then a meter I got for free (along with 5 more of the same meter) from harbor freight, It's fully dead. I had it metering a coilgun. I had a MOT as a counterweight to hold the coilgun in place when it recoils. It didn't work, the MOT fell, and landed on the meter. It switched the meter to AC, it also miss-positioned the LCD screen. The screen was connected to the board by a simple rubber flexible contact bridge. It got shifted and damaged, making the meter now read weird symbols.

Good luck with a new one, hopefully it's to spec. My free meters read voltage a bit off X_X

I somehow managed to kill my only power supply. It shorted out due to some solder on the floor. I don't think it's really possible to fix it, unless I can 1. Figure out whats broken through that ungodly mess of components and parts, and 2. Order a replacement part of the same make and type.

Ehh, I bought it anyway. I plan on testing its accuracy and reporting the results here. Should take maybe a month to get here. angry

I bought one of these last month Link2

Test leads are worthless as usuall, other than that C seems pretty acurate, L on the other hand I don't know for I don't have any marked inductors. But for what it cost me I'm not going to complain to much.

I semi killed my best meter this week. AC only went up to 700v unlike DC... dead

I think these uC based meters are pretty awesome, I build one from a kit a couple of years back. I never tested it against a properly calibrated target, but on of the shelf caps and inductors it always was within a couple of %. I found it infinitely useful for a whole bunch of projects.
