Hi all. Thats it, Sony is officially on my blacklist. After wasting nearly ten hours on this *!!%%(*ing RSoD PS3, I finally gave up. Seems that the fix requires a chip which you can't get, and/or breaking numerous laws to get a hexdump. Not worth the hassle.
So the other PS3 has the "three beeps of death" problem. Also a brick.
Went to load my Windows 7 64 bit (RRP £173) into my less than two years old Sony DVD writer, and it spun up, went to boot and SCRAAEEEECHUGGACHUGGAGRIIIIIIIIIIINNND (AAAUGGGH) Couldn't get the disk to eject, had to resort to taking the drive apart.
Needless to say this Win7 64 bit disk is not just scratched a bit, the disk is physically melted right through the first complete layer. Appears that the spindle motor chewed right into the plastic nearly 2mm as well as circular scratches and scuff marks. Even Macgyver couldn't fix it
So I have decided to add Sony to the blacklist of companies I will never deal with again. Who is with me?

(memo to self:- send Sony PS3 shell for repair filled with the stinkiest French cheese I can find, deep frozen with a note saying "Your Product Stinks!" )

My brand new ps3 slim lasted a whole 20 minutes before the bluray failed. Sent it back to amazon, got another. which lasted another 3 months before MW2 quit working. Still need to send it back.

Yes, you must do this or you are a coward! My disgust for sony is well known to my family and friends.

Well, im mostly suprised how the actors managed to keep a straight face throughout the whole bit.
Really though, Sony once meant something a long time ago, where their stuff was actual quality. Now days I will never buy anything from them again, as its just shit that will fail on you anyway.
If your looking for an expensive doorstop, sony is your company.

Rumour has it that the design changes on the PS3 Slim are responsible for the Bluray problems. The one I just took apart has the dual laser common to the very first "Phat" PS3's. Seems that "Something Went Wrong" when they redid the optical layout.
