 Does anyone know how Glassman "reversible polarity" HV power supplies work?

Yes, that's right. Here's  a picture from a different angle, where you can see both of the wires from the transformer entering in the middle of the multiplier stack. The supply is rated for 70kV at 7mA intermittently, the capacitors are 470pF, and I think the intended operating frequency is 60kHz.
