If your point is to use tubes then go for it, tubes are cool. You implied in your original post that it was an issue of cost. I suggest using individual batteries to power the tube heaters to start with. You can switch to additional windings once you know how the circuit performs. You don't want to blow the tube heaters by driving them too hard.
