@Ced: It is easy...if you know how to do it. All you need is good contact...thick plexi to cover the foils/caps...fabricate something pressing down the rails...use blank aluminum. I used sanding paper (gr1000) to smooth out the edges of the rails a lil bit.

I got it working (yay!) for about 10 minutes yesterday, but when I tried it today, I got the purple glow but it didn't lase. It's pretty humid toady, so do any of you think that might be the culprit? Again, I'm getting the purple glow but no lasing.

here is the same problem:
Material used: 1. Grow particle board 50x50cm 2. Al foil 3. Plastic dielectric ~1mm thickness 4. Anodized Al profiles
First, we glued Al foil (45x38,5 cm) with epoxy glue on the board. Then we laid the plastic dielectric on the foil, but left 5cm of foil not covered for spark gap. Then laid two piece of foil (39,5x18 cm) directly above the firs foil, and left 2,5cm gap between them along the center and covered again with two pieces of plastic dielectric whit ~6cm gap between them. Everything pressed whit weight. After that, we laid two Al profiles on the both pieces of foil. Connected them whit handmade coil of approx 20 turns (tried 1mm, 0,2mm and even resistors). The spark gap was made of two screws and one was connected with ground al foil and another one with one of Al profile. The power supply 1-10kV DC source. Everything was working good, but there was no laser beam generating. We tried to use different gaps between profiles and spark gap screws, but nothing helped.
