Cant get my SMPS to power flyback.

Hey guys I bought a low voltage lighting SMPS (60watts), I has arcing it, but because the SMPS has a internal overload protection circuit, I need somehow get around this, by applying a load?

Please help, when it was arcing, the arcs were spectacular, I will post a picture when I get this figured out.

How can I counteract the short circuit/overload protection circuit?

If the smps is capable of producing arcs why do you need the flyback?

Walshy did post details of it in another thread. It does have all kinds of protection built into it and seems pretty indestructible.

I suspected this could be a problem, though. If I remember correctly, the supply has to 'see' a load of between 10 and 60 watts in order to operate (1 to 5 Amps, approximately). (The load is obviously resistive, but you know what I mean.)

Well, if one with all the protection died, i think one without would die even quicker.

If you can't build your own circuit, you likely should not be playing with high voltage, in my honest opinion. But, i think this is not the case, i think you can build a circuit, and i think you should do just that, if not for the experience alone. Prove to us that we have a reason to help with any questions you do have by doing homework and making a circuit, and that we aren't just talking to someone who will never take our advice.

I figured out how to use this now, you have to wire a small halogen lamp to act as a load, and then you can wire the flyback in parallel, it works then.

I use this type of system before and there is a certain set of value not to pass ,if the load is not inouph the system doesn't start ,if the load is to big than it heat up and stop,also unless I am rong ,the smps use some sort of oscillator so the frequency is not fixt witch mean that with the flyback as a load ,depending how much you pool from it,the frequency souap of the smps might reach the resonance frequency of the flyback or get away from it ,it is possible to tune this effect by changing the number of turn on the primary of the flyback,the big smps are more robust than the small one and also one brand can be much better than an other (for the same price)on a 300 W one I try to hook the flyback instead of the high frequency transformer ,I had to roal about 60 turn in the primary ,it didn't work with all flyback but eventually I get one witch work and get good result,only problem: the output is 50 hz modulated...
