Didn't want to hijack that thread and I don't think it's "chemistry enough" for chemistry...
The sodium in the bucket was about the size of a sugar cube (1/4" x 1/4" or 1/2cm x 1/2cm) and squashed flat in about 1 inch of water. Made a loud crack rather than a bang.
I think the sodium in the toilet is an urban myth (in the UK) as it was told to us in the mid 1970s at school and was used to emphasise that "it's been done, so please don't bother." I've never actually seen it recorded anywhere that a school toilet has been demolished due to such shennanigans. I'm not too sure that would happen anyhow...

Yes, and they managed it without anyone getting hit in the head by a brick.
I have a little book called "Horror Stories in the school chemistry lab" or similar. The sodium toilet explosion story is in there, along with another one where a brick of sodium is thrown into a lake and blows up a canoeist.

One thing that does work (at least we used to do it a lot) is to flush Calcium Carbide down a lab sink so it ends up in the sump under the desk (in the cupboards) - alternatively, you could just chuck a handful into the sump and shut the door.
You just then wait for some poor unfortunate schmuck to light a bunsen and chuck the splint into the sink....
