After my last eBay purchased Staco 2510 was destroyed in shipment, I find myself again on the lookout of a panel mount 20-25A Variac.
My best bet so far is a new $450 2510 on eBay (which the seller was selling for less around Christmas, ), or a $440 2510 surplus at Herbach and Rademan. If anyone has a line on a quality (newish) variable autotransformer in this class, please let me know.

It turned out to be more than the brush. Like I mentioned earlier, The plastic axel that is an integrated (non-removable) part of the brush contact rotor is completely destroyed. Getting a new one seems prohibitively expensive at this point, and I can get my money back from UPS... So, I'll just start again.
