Don't burn your hands off. But, i suppose you could electrolyze salt water, but DO IT OUTSIDE! chlorine gas isn't always friendly.

Electrolyzing salt water produces NaOH, not Na.
You need to electrolyze molten salt.

There is a reason that you have trouble finding your brick. It is a dangerous substance that is very expensive to transport. This sort of thing does not scale well and there is a possibility of you blowing your head off.

If you want to do stupid things like this we don't really want to know about it.

If you want to just make some booms, perchlorate flash powder is both cheaper and safer than sodium.

No, when you electrolyze salt water, you get hydrogen, oxygen, and chlorine gas., effectively separating the sodium. not sure how you would keep it stable.

You can't.

The by-products of saline electrolysis depend on the electrode potential of the elements used for anode and cathode.

Where mercury is used as the cathode, the sodium liberated dissolves in the mercury to form an amalgam.

When this amalgam is placed in water, the sodium reacts to form a hydroxide solution, and the mercury is free to be used again.

On an automated, industrial scale, this technique is known as the Castner-Kellner Process.

Arg - forgot about that, I was too fixated on the use of fused NaOH (Castner process) and production of metallic Sodium.

Why is it that at the age of 13 when I made my own metal that it never crossed my mind to flush a load of it down the toilet?. I must have been very boring.

I believe from my conversations with one of the companies that make solid Na and K, the salt is heated until it is molten. Then, a large current is used to start the electrolysis, yielding Na and Cl2. The heat from the conducted current keeps the bath molten. Of course, one has the issues of containment.
