Connecting DC flybacks in series with centre tap gives AC?

While using Steve Conner's google search function, I came across a reference which said you can wire two DC flybacks in series, with a centre tap as a zero reference, and get an AC output.

I couldn't find a relevant schematic, though.

What I'm wondering is how would you go about connecting this setup to power a plasma globe, for example?

I've been puzzling over this for a couple of hours and can't work out how to do it.

I read that thread earlier, Darkspeed.

I know I can get AC if I use a Tesla coil (I did that ten years ago when I built a HF supply for TIG welding, using the single transistor flyback circuit).

It doesn't mention anything about connecting two flybacks in series with a centre tap for AC, though.

I think the idea is to put the two modern DC flybacks in parallel, ground to ground and HV to HV. And then drive them 180deg out of phase.
Don't quote me on that tho.

Electraholic, what you describe is equivalent to a conventional rectified centre tapped transformer, and is also equivalent to driving just one rectified flyback at twice the frequency.

I can see how, if they are wired in series with a centre tap, the ground pin of the lower one is negative with respect to the centre tap, and the output of the upper one is positive with respect to the flyback, but I can't really see how to make use of this.

Maybe the original reference I read is incorrect, but I thought it was worth asking about, just in case.

EDIT: Maybe if you connect a couple of capacitors, one across each flyback, and fire them alternately? That's the best idea I can come up with so far.

Can you post a link to the reference that says this? I can't see how it could possibly work either. If it's in the HVWiki, maybe it needs changed.

It was just a post in an early thread on plasma globes. All it said was that it is possible. I'll look for it again, but it didn't give any more information than that. I just thought it was worth following up, just in case......

I found this:

Link2

The post at the bottom by Blackplasma mentions a centre tapped flyback, and extracting an 'AC component'

I'll see if I can find the other post.
