Has anybody every built one of these? It has 2 secondary's that are resonated by a single primary. Check it out, it claims to produce interesting lightning effects.

"Note that Tesla’s BALL LIGHTNING was created by TWO POSITIVE ANODE DISCHARGES FROM TWO COILS IN HARMONIC RESONENCE WITH ONE COIL HAVING A HIGHER VOLTAGE THAN THE OTHER."

"Simply, you create a high voltage and a low voltage spark gap (plug/positive anodes) and the discharge will form a type of plasma ball in air. "

May I ask? Where in the world did you find that at?

I found it on numerous websites. Apparently it was a Tesla drawn "simple" schematic, it claims to work.. but so do a lot of things, i was just wondering if anybody had seen anything similar or tried it out. It is in esscence a bi-polar coil, just drawn vertically with a pretty slim primary.. 3 windings isn't a whole lot, but the wire guage is pretty thick, maybe that accounts for something.

I have seen some photos on coils built in this fashion way back when. Its not common, but its been done before. In fact, I think i may have even seen it done with a figure-8 shaped primary coil.

But you're right, its exactly like a bipolar coil except the coils are on the same side.

I don't think it would create any arcs different than a unipolar tesla coil, or a traditional bi-polar coil though.

That is a drawing from the Corrum brothers. They claim to have created BL with it and there are photos somewhere too.
I have found the hard part is to get a harmonic interaction between the 2 coils.
A variable topload is really needed to tune them to each other.

I don't see what makes it bi-polar. Both secondaries are wound and pointing in the same direction (in the picture) and coupled to the same primary. Wouldn't this mean they will have the same polarity?

If the idea is to have the coils both resonate together, but at different voltages due to a different LC combination, the coils given in the picture would work quite poorly at this. The given L and C values give an Fres for the left one of 96kHz and for the right one 186kHz. Javatc confirms with 78kHz for the left and 177kHz for the right. The primary works out to around 70kHz. I'm not sure if the coil was constructed as in the picture, but I would be very surprised if it would work.

#2 on this sites explains clearly why there are "ball lightning" and it has nothing to do with having two secondaries at different frequencies... or ball lightning for that matter...

Has anybody on here had any interesting effects with a bipolar coil (wound correctly) ?
