Some time ago i acquired large 1000pps pulse capacitor (4µF 15kV)

Can this be used in DRSSTC? Apart from the fact that i dont know if it has an AC rating or how much RMS current it can take but it sure looks very robust.

With cap like that the primary coil would be quite small, only about 2-3 turns for large secondary.

4uF means a resonant impedance of 1ohm @ 40khz (typical frequency for a large coil), this is a really low value, the risk is a huge primary current...

So the problem is that primary can run only couple RF cycles before (CM600) bridge limit and OCD value is reached.

How about some sort of OLTC then?

Having cap like this without any creative use is just wrong cheesey

Probably... To limit this, you should lower the resonant frequency, but a coil with 40kHz is already quite large... The other way is lowering the voltage on the bridge and/or using a half-bridge instead of a full-bridge...

I'm not an expert of OLTC but this could be a good idea...

i think that oltc is the best choose for thats caps.. but you will need a big IGBT.. the good os oltc is the low quantity of material in the Link2 you will need to make your experimentation
