There is also a method of testing the 250's.
There should be a level of resistance that the datasheet may supply.
Don't quote me on this; as I'm not sure but I believe it may be from the source to the drain @ 6.x ohms. MOSFETS don't have to explode for them to be bad.

Do a search for testing mosfets on google. There are a few simple tests that can be done with a meter that will give you a "good" idea if they are toast.

you can check the built in diode but that is usually not enough.

you can also build this multitester that will check mosfets but other components as well, complete construction details on my blog:

Just did the MOSFET test at "http://www.4qdtec.com/mostest.html". Both of them turned out to be fine! Yay! I also reconfigured the fast diodes just in case. My suspicions have been aroused; I think the problem is the power supply which is my 12v 5Ah SLA battery.

I once used it to power another flyback driver when it run out, so I charged it back up and used it again but instead I ended up with a IRF540 in the bin. My multimeter reads 19 amps for a 5 amp SLA!!! I charge it up with a 4 amp charger... It's really weird.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately I don't know anything about programming so I won't be able to make it. Besides, this is only a minor test which can be done with a multimeter.

5Ah is the battery capacity, not ho many amps it can provide. Your battery can provide 1 amp for 5 hours, 5 amps for one hour, 10 amps for 30 minutes etc.

A good SLA battery can provide currents in excess of 15 amps, I have one that can provide 60+ amps.

Yeah, I know. I just learnt about amp-hours and stuff. The problem is that I used this to power two flyback drivers, and none of them worked. So I will buy a 300VA 18v+18v toroid with a rectifier and smoothing capacitor for a better PSU.

I'd just get some better batteries, can't get anything less noisy than a battery!
