I am playin with lt-spice, and draw a class-f rf amplifier, is it possible to build such an amp for a tesla coil, or is class-e better?

Go with Class E that path has already been paved by steve ward, unless you want t pave the path for Class F

Richie Burnett has some great info on the Class-E topology which can be found on his website. Its excellent reading and Richie did a superb job in writing everything up.

Richie is also a member of the 4HV community and his member name is GeordieBoy. So if you have any Class-E related questions, i'm sure he would be happy to help you with your project.

I am using the ixfn55n50f (sot-227) mosfets with deic421 gatedriver on a watercooled plate (30cmx20cm), wich i allready have...

I wan't to run 2 tesla coils at 4 mhz, for stereo audio, each coil is 500 watt (target), secondary is a 163uH coil/78 turns of teflon wire, and a 1200nH primary

in Lt-spice I can generate 100Kvolt@4mhz with class-f, but in class-e I will only get 12 Kvolt, but this is theory, not practice.

If you are running stereo operation, you want to separate the fres by at least 2 times the max. audible frequency which is around 40kHz. However, in practice, you'll probably only be able to find a 4MHz and 3.9MHz crystal oscillator - if thats the way you are going to drive these.

The reason is that when you couple two coils of closely resonant frequencies, you will get an audio interference tone thats approximately Fres1-Fres2. So you want Fres1-Fres2 to be at least greater than 20kHz.

The other alternative is simply to space the coils relatively far apart avoid this coupling interference.

how far is that, is 2 meter enough?

F

as you can see, a more stable input current, also the input voltage is lower at class f and the output voltage is higher then in class-e.

the currents at the drain to source voltage is also lower at class-f (not shown in the image), this is pure theoretical but I think it is better to go for class-f in tesla coil design at these high frequency's.

I can not try this in practice because my gatedriver chip is not available.
