I want to build some tesla coils but SSTC is too complex for me.I'm now experimenting with a very small SGTC powered by a moniter flyback.The sound from my spark gap is so loud that my families are angry.I live in an apartment so the noise might disturb other people.
I use a monitor flyback to charge three 8KV 0.1UF capacitor(they are connected in serial).my primary has 4 turns(solenoid) and my secondary has 1000turns of 0.35mm wire.I wound them on a 11cm pvc water pipe.
The spark gap fires every 0.5~1 seconds(approx).So far it didin't produce any spark. I tried to add or remove some primary turns but this dosen't work. How can I fix it?

Build a vttc, they have sparks like a sstc but with only 5 components!

The calculator on deepfriedneon is for AC charging; it doesn't hold for DC charging sources like a flyback. You definitely want more than 1 bps in a tesla coil.

Firstly increase the power into your flyback, or build a better driver. I think you should use more than 4 primary turns, I would wind a 10-15 turn tappable primary. To make the spark gap quieter you can put it in some kind of enclosure, but it must be at least a bit ventillated otherwise gasses will build up which can prevent it from operating correctly.

The quietest one I have made was not only enclosed but had 5 through 7 gaps (depending upon tune). I put a duct in one area & if the overall design was for a lower current it seems fine for a few minutes. I think you may only run into problems if the coil is a larger one or if the enclosure is quite tight. A single gap will generally always be loud.
