It's begun, over North America. It's very rare for one of these to happen on the winter solstice. I will probably never again see an eclipsed moon so high in the sky.

There was one in the UK on 3rd March 2007 - I got some rather crummy photos by holding a camera up to a meade telescope eyepiece. Got the nice "red moon" though... not great focus as the light level was very low (it was an eclipse after all!) and it was cold, so my hand was shaking a bit with the long-ish exposure...

Indeed - as you are only a few miles from us, I'd hope you had the same sky as we did! It was completely clear - I just wish I'd had a better camera & proper mount for the little Meade I had borrowed.

I watched with 15 x 90 binoculars, and it really was very fine - the best lunar eclipse I've seen.
