EDIT: does "solid state" indicate that there is no perishable, or liquid phase chemistry involved? ie. the century old mercury valve rectifiers would not be considered solid state?upon further research, i believe "solid state" refers to devices in which the electrons are confined and/or conducted through solid materials, like poly crystiline silicon,with the caveat that there also be no moving parts. ( so a relay wouldnt count)

I've been reading a little about the Rigol DS1052E scope over at and according to the information there, supposedly the only difference between the Rigol DS1052E scope (with an advertised bandwidth of 50 Mhz), and the DS1102E (with an advertised bandwidth of 100 Mhz), is a simple change in the firmware.
Supposedly it's easy to upgrade the DS1502E to the DS1102E. Also, the newer HW versions of the DS1502E apparently come with a LED backlit display, which would be another plus, IMHO.
I already have an Instek 60 Mhz scope, but for $350.00 or so (I see a place selling it rightnow for $341.25), I'm thinking about getting one of these too, basically just because it seems too good a deal to pass up.
