It took 7 months to plug it in?

Also, that scares me.

Did you eat the toast?

Bet you can have some fun measuring voltages at different points though :)

It took 7 months to plug it in? -- It was a really long power cord.

Also, that scares me. -- Meh

Did you eat the toast? -- Of course

Bet you can have some fun measuring voltages at different points though :) -- Measuring current would be more exciting.

@grenadier
I think the wire has to be a lot closer to the toast

someone should make a toaster using a bunch of high temperature arcs from flybacks.
or a skillet that's heated by mosfets

Inserting metal object in toast and using a induction heater? Now, that would be toasty, even if there is a bit of molten metal in there. The spice of life!

A metal plate either side of the toast, and heated by induction, may be more practical.

To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "That's not a toaster.".
When I was a kid we had a coal fired central heating system. It was rated for about 10KW thermal o/p if I remember rightly.

At the bottom was the ash can and there was a cover over it which restricted the air flow through the fire.
So, if you took that cover off you could "over run" this thing.
Specifically, you could get a very noticeable draught through it.
It's difficult to feel the breeze when it's less than about a metre a second so lets assume that's the velocity. The cover was about 40 cm by 10 cm. So the bulk flow of air must have been something like 0.04 cubic metres per second (or more). That's about 50g of air each second of which about 10g was oxygen which would react with about 4 grams of carbon per second. Carbon gives about 25 KJ/g when burned so that's roughly 100 KJ per second i.e about 100 KW.

So I was over running it roughly 10 to 1.
The other thing about this was that if you emptied the ash out of the ash pan, and put a piece of bread in there (on some nice clean foil) yo could make toast in about 3 seconds per side.

Let me know if anyone here makes a more preposterously over powered toaster.
