Start with A, then once all the tuning is done you can increase towards B to get btighter coupling.

As "rule of thumb" coupling factor (k) should be between 0.15 and 0.2

It is not easy to measure k, but with a program such JavaTC you can perform quite accurate simulations and then have a quite reliable estimation of the k factor of your coil.

B would be better if it didn't flash over and burn up the coils.

For small DRSSTCs, you want the tightest coupling possible before flashover.

For large ones, there are sweet spots of coupling, "notches" etc. the same as a SGTC has. Steve Ward is the expert on this, I only build small ones.

you need know that when two LC ressonants corcuits are magnetic coupleds the ressonant point down and create another point more high. this depend of the coupling, if you tune in A and after you put the coumplig to B, the tune will not be perfect
