It would be trivial to build yourself in a simpler form factor. Might take some trial and error to get the tone and timber you want, and of course the proper tuning (variable tuning, perhaps?), but once you had it, I'd think it would be pretty straight forward.

Only trouble is the large diameter PVC (looks like he's using 3" mostly?) is spendy. Fittings go for $1.50-$5 each depending on what you need. The pipe is about $1.50/ft at the big-box home improvement stores.

I am curious how many different pipes he's got available there. Wish I could see a close-up.
