ya, but thats if you want to get the most out of it, but for those who dont know that much having the protection circuitry is probly a good idea ( so it limits the current and over voltage to ground) , you can still to some electrostacis and plasma stuff with it. i first started this way making little silica beads bounce around, and making light bulb plasma globs and lighting up burt out floresnt lights

Thank, Grenadier.
Richard Hull on fusor.net (also famous for his 'Teslathons' in the past) has insisted on numerous occasions that it is not possible to get more than a few milliamps from a flyback. While I've proved him wrong on several other topics, I don't know enough about this stuff to argue this point with him.
I assumed, from his tesla coil past, that he knew what he was talking about.
I'll look on here (4HV) for more info on ZVS drivers, and thanks for your advice.

that will most definently wont work as said you need voltage that turns off and on at 1,000s of times per second a battery is costant and your main lines is only 50-60 times per second

Well then someone ought to show Mr. Fusor this picture!
And just putting DC voltage into a flyback won't do anything at all. All you'll get one spark when you connect it, and a bigger one when you disconnect it.

if all you want is easy sparks from a flyback go with grenadier CFL idea or my board idea simple as it gets, or first go into a dark room on a dry day and rub a wool sweatter over your head and toush grounded objects or the sweatter and watch static sparks i used to do this for hours when i was a kid seeing little lighting bolts from my fingers
