I was wondering if it's not possible to build a stripline with a structure which sets up waves of acceleration/deceleration with a DC current (through a resistivity profile or other means). In the same way the travelling voltage wave in a normal antenna, or the magnets in a free electron laser do.

The EM wave isn't being accelerated, the electrons are being accelerated.
Which emits EM radiation as they accelerate, and more ... they will even will emit stimulated EM radiation when accelerated. Which if you accelerate them just right allows you to get ASE and a laser (or an antenna).

I dont think an electron can emit anything. When it drops from one valence position in an atom, the atom emits a characteristic electromatic wave which is part of the identity of the atom. The question is, where is the electrron between the two levels of that fall? Where's the beef? All the light in the universe is a history of something that isn't anymore.

If the electron causes 'braking radiation' when it jumps, would that imply that it was some where else between states? Could we find it at some time between those two states?

I know I'm reviving a very very old thread, but an idea occured to me;
What would happen if a different waveform was used instead of a sine wave? Like a triangle wave, sawtooth, square wave? Would the light look distorted? Different colors?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all waveforms can be made from a number of sine waves at different frequencies. In the case of "transmitting" a square wave (or any other waveform for that matter) at 563909.77 GHz you'd get a fundamental component of green light, along with several other components with progressively lower amplitude. The effect would be the same as mixing colors, so you'd get some white color I assume.
