I've always wanted to build a model city with a train, but make it as realistic as possible. This means I'd have a real electrical grid with 3 phase HVAC, and mini transformers to lower the voltage for the buildings, mini substations etc. I think it would be an awesome project, but I still have no time nor money to attempt such a thing.
For all you model railroad guys, I'd love to see something like this. Little HVAC lines that if you short circuit make arcs, just like the big ones. It'd just be the coolest thing. I wonder how one could design a mini 3 phase HVAC PSU though. It doesn't need to be 60hz, because such small 60hz pole pigs couldn't possibly supply a whole lot of power.
