Hello guys,

question about tuning the 4mhz coil, in the PDF of this coil they say 3 5/8inch for the secondary, I made it with 4 inch and have break out at 1 inch above the sec. coil.

the break out (plasma flame) is about 1 inch, I have the high power version 70vac, so I wan't 2 inch, but if i take 1 winding away, the complete setup will not break out annymore...

so I think I am in tune with my first setup, or do I have to remove more windings and get in tune again to higher the break-out point?

if i remove to much, there is no way back, repairing the winding to put more windings on it is not so beautiful...

please help. (excuse me for my english) I am dutch.

1" is acceptable output for this coil. If you are getting 1" output, then you're tune is pretty much on. The 2" arcs will usually be created during large transient spikes with a good audio mix, but is also dependent on how everything is tuned as well including your BIAS setpoint, and onboard audio amplifier set-up.

BTW, taking a winding away shouldn't affect it much provided the height of the electrode is the same. If you want to fine tune it, then simply adjust the height up and down in 1/8" increments.

You can also increase power output by increasing coupling (moving primary coil upwards with respect to secondary), however, this may cause you to go out of proper class-e operation. An oscilloscope can be used to check if class-e switching is proper or not.

another question, with no music input (line-in connected to my pc) I hear bzzzz, is this normall? it sounds like 50hz, maybe the dc-cap is not big enough?

ore is it normal that you can hear the plasmaflame do bzzzzzz?

btw: it is working in class-e now.

If the audio gain POT is set too high, you can get a humming noise.
Also, ground loops in the audio equipment could also pose a problem.

Which version Class-E do you have?

Its most likely you have the audio gain potentiometer set too high. If this potentiometer is set too high, you will get the hum sound you are describing.

Also, please review our latest instruction updates. We revised the instructions considerably to make the test / set-up process much easier.
