I have a ZVS driver driving a flyback (powering ZVS at 13.8v at 7 amps) and it seems my arcs look just like a 10k neon sign transformer could i use my flyback to power a Tesla coil ? i wound 28gage wire on a mailing tube that is 2 inches in diameter and 2 foot long i wound the whole thing for a total of 1813 turns, will that work for a secondary or are the dimension wrong. If it work will i get long arcs or would shortening the secondary give me better results. Thank you for any help

Without knowing what kind of voltage you're getting it'll be harder to determine the parameters of your capacitor bank. Saying that it "looks like" 10kv isn't conclusive at all. Also your secondary is a bit too long. As I understand it you shouldn't exceed a height/width ratio of 7:1.

Your secondary aspect ratio is a bit silly. Having said that, it will likely work. I would cut it in half and make two coils!

Unfortunately I can't find the link but I have found a few coils that were unique in that fashion of the secondary being very tall and thin. They appeared to function fine albeit I'm fairly sure they were not optimum. What I remember was that the primary needed the ability to move vertical with substantial ease of adjustment. Apparently this would be critical to tuning such a secondary.
I would attempt to construct such a mobile primary first and see if by adjustment of height positioning; it could be tuned.
What I saw was quite radical by any standards but the performance wasn't too shabby. The primary was a flat pan-cake of simplistic design. I do remember that a comment was made that alterations of as little as less than one centimeter made differences in performance due to such a design.

Don't cut it in half! Make a bi-polar coil!
