Hi guys, I built a new Fly-back HV source for my Marx generator. I’ve already posted this design some time ago, however this time I’m adding complete scheme of the driver and also the power part. As you can see there is a power in simplicity. The 19†screen fly-back is dipped in cooking oil to prevent spark-overs between the pins and uses its own internal primary. The only thing which gets little bit warm during the run is the TVS (that’s why I made something like a heat sink for it). The heat sink for the transistor could be really small but I used what I had... I think the final voltage is quite impressive (sparks are over 7cm long which means over 60KV – could be longer but I’m afraid of destroying the internal diode).
Freq: 22KHz Power: approx.100VAC
BTW: For those of you who can not get the UCC's the TL494 can easilly drive the IGBT directlly...
Cheers Mates
There is a bug in the scheme - the cap connecting the pin5 should be 10nF...
