Hi all.

Seems that under the current revision (helpfully passed by the previous Labour Govt just before they lost the election) open wi-fi could be shut down due to Clause 18.

effectively anyone offering "wireless internet" even as a free service is required to not only log who connects when, but filter out infringing traffic or they are legally liable.

Comments?

(we can only hope that the current Govt realise that this law needs to be changed..)

Hope can be a coping mechanism, but becomes a simple delusion if responsible action is abandoned.

Contact your MP by mail to voice rational opinions about the law's philosophical and economic impact.

It seems AU has joined China/Iran/UK in letting a few misguided sycophants marginalize citizens in the name of centralized morality.

You could become a political candidate and offer to pay every household $2000 on condition they read "Nineteen Eighty-Four". This is the initial estimated cost of this ineffective hilarity to remove due process.

You are spot on!

I would sign on to help get the required number of signatures to qualify to run in an election.

*Runs off to buy a copy of 1984 so the $2,000 can be claimed.

I have seen the movie but haven't read the book.

Does your country place a similar burden on traditional ISPs?
