using realtime NEMA data coming from the serial port, I can not work out how to plot this into Google Earth.
I have available to me tools>GPS>realtime tab>start button (which is not greyed out). However i do not see a port selection anywhere, not in that window, not in the program preferences.
I have read through the "Google Earth User Guide" and did not find anything that helps.
Also, according to Link2 it is supported by both the pro and the free versions (else why would they have even included it in the tools menu).
If anyone knows how to achieve this via some method, please let me know. I am using OS X although i could use windows if required.

Macs don't have serial ports, so you must be using a USB-serial adapter of some sort. The issue is probably that the adapter isn't recognized by Google Earth, so it doesn't display a choice of serial ports to use, because it thinks you have none.

I wanted to skip all the minute details since it is not really reverent how i actually have the port, people do such tasks over bluetooth serial links, or whatever, as long as it shows as as a comx or /dev/cu.x
By the way there is no setting in the windows version either, the import data tab (in both os's) seems to just scan all serial devices but nothing for realtime.

Hm, why wont it scan for devices under the realtime tab.
