please be easy on this newbie and I have what will seem like an easy question to most...I have installed a 'used' larger re-formatted hard drive into my computer and can not get windows to install. Is the hard drive or the installer (me) at fault?

It seems that the used drives always give me problems and new ones will accept the OS without fault.

Help....

It is hard to debug something blindly. Do you get any error messages, how do you know you have problems?

Usually deleting any previous partitions if present and making a new one does the trick.

There are thousands of reasons why Windows might not install, and you don't give anywhere near enough information to let us guess. So your question isn't easy at all, it's more as if you posted "I'm standing on a street in Canada. Can you tell me which one?"

For a start you might try installing another OS like Linux onto the drive to see if it works. Also try the drive in another computer.

Some additional information regarding my OS installation problem....

* the install process is not computer specific as I have tried it in different hardware configurations
* the used drive was re-formated prior to my acquisition

The install starts as you would expect and all of the required system and generic drives load it's at this point that the problem occurs, as the system reboots to open the windows install page the infamous 'windows blue screen of death' appears and of course the install process is terminated at this point.

Could sector '0' be faulty?

The blue screen should contain more information about what the problem is. We need to know everything it says.
