I'm building a homepage for myself and I need a good, free webhost. I've already had a look at some, and especially 000webhost.com looks pretty good. PHP support would be good to have and at least 50 mb of space (preferably more).

What would you suggest? You can post your opinions and suggestions here.

I was in your position half a year ago too. Since an awesome .4hv.org domain wasn't available I tried several of those free sites. Out of all of them I deemed 000webhost.com the best. Since then I've had no problems, and their hosting plan has been more than adequate for my website.

I use Atspace and 110mb, Atspace does not have any PHP support though, it has been reliable for the 1.5 years my site has been up.

110MB does have PHP support along with SQL and stuff. I have been using that just to store files on for my site because it has a nice generous 5GB of storage space.

heres the link: Link2 For some reason they have changed their front page to be grossly big...

This took me several weeks to choose 110MB, and its been a good choice so far...

I could serve some space (say 500MB?) for free on my server. I have there Ubuntu Linux Edgy, Apache2, PHP 5.1 and MySQL.

Link2

I've got a site there, backyardskunkworks.iifree.net, slowly building it offline in my free time.

Likes:
1GB Space
Totally ad free
15GB bandwidth/month
Almost no downtime

Dislikes:
Does not allow some oddball filetypes.

It supports PHP, I'd highly reccomend it.

There are also some other good free hosts out there, you can use google. Always remember to keep a backup of your site, sometimes hosts go POOF!

Thanks for suggestions. I think I'll go for 000webhost.

Thanks for the offer. Otherwise it's a great idea, but I'd like to be able to manage my files completely by myself with cPanel or Link2

Since you live in finland, I can recommend Link2 They offer 1,5GB of space, "unlimited" bandwidth (theres some recommendation but its not a rule if you dont abuse it too badly), shell account so you can run irssi, daily backups, mail, namerservers, subdomains etc. for 30e/year.

SFTP could be one good, WinSCP for Windows, and lots of options for Linux.

LinkSYS 54GL has a DynDNS client built in.

$25/yr for your domain, or free for a sub domain:
Link2

Ubuntu Server is a full LAMP system that will run on a low end computer.
