Finished this some time ago, and now posted it smile

So basically just PLL DWSSTC II driver -> TC4420 -> IRFP240.
The sparks aren't so impressive, but hey, you can't get everything: this thing is running off a 12V 1A wall wart!

Here's a small video:

And here you can see my obvious asthetics skills tongue

There is an interrupter in the picture, but it's not working. No audio modulation implemented. I'm going now to make a small DRSSTC, because I got bored with SSTC's.

Hey great coil! Is it Steve Wards mini or micro coil?

Would you happen to have a cleaner copy of the schematic? Id like to try that as the parts are pretty much free & it looks fun. The hand-drawn schematic is confusing in a few places.

Here's how I wired my coil together. Link2

Spark, have you tired increasing the supply voltage? I'm sure you could get some good streamers from that coil, at least an inch.

This coil was just an early prototype, and I don't like developing it any further. I've started a new coil, and perhaps I will try some higher voltage with it. However, if I take the coil with me somewhere, I certainly won't like to take also a heavy bench supply, almost bigger than the coil itself tongue

BTW, I did a little measurement and found out that the coil draws around 0.6Amps. Then I measured the voltage, and the multimeter showed only 3 volts with the 12V wall wart. Could the DMM be picking interference from the coil? With no load the wall wart output voltage is 16V.

Those would be pretty impressive streamers for just 1.8W of input, even less after losses. Check what the voltage drops to with a 0.6A load if you want to be sure. I don't think the IRFP240 would turn on with just 3 volts anyway, so it's probably just the multimeter.
