i had just bought a used heath 4552 25mhz oscilloscope from ebay for a unbeatable price. when i powered it up it amazingly worked but the intensity of the trace was very dim even at max so i left it on for about 10 minutes to see what will catch on fire inside but amazingly all of a sudden the trace got a lot brighter and i was so happy but when i powered it off than turned it back on it was dim and the same thing after about 10 minutesit got brighter any reason why it could be doing this.

I'd suspect a dirty brightness pot, slight temperature changes or movements could cause changing settings. You could try replacing it, cleaning it with pot cleaner/lube, or vigorously turning it up/down a few times. If you have a large enough tank of DI water and a hair-drier, you could try the following.
I understand that years ago, the scope repair shop at Tektronix treated all incoming repairs by taking the covers off, blasting the dust with an air line, agitating in hot soapy water followed by several rinses in DI water, a blow dry then pot lube, before they even thought about the reported fault. After that treatment, a very large proportion were "no fault found".
