After trying to get a working telsa Coil going for about 3 years, then dropping the though of making 1 again after 2 years and having the idea of a HV device spew arcs out of a toroid or of a breakout point pop back into my head after whatching a lot of telsa coil videos on youtube. I started to construct "Clear Blue" after getting the circuit try to work on a bread board and have it produce small yet satisfying arcs and corona discharge.

As well as making a burnt out flourescent light become a flaming light show.

I decided it was time to make it a case to hold the electronics and reduce the clutter of wires, also to use thicker wires since all my jumper cables have melted insulation angry.

For the case I settled on plexi glass since seeing CH_R's work I thought it'd be cool looking.

Above just seeing how everything would fit and what it'd look like.

Another shot of the unfinished case but with the coil sitting on top.

Most everything done as far as construction of the box was concerned only had a few holes to drill and fasten everything down.
After seeing CH_R have LED's embeded into plexyI thought it would make the case a bit more colorful and add a bit of pazzaz to it all, as well as server for a power on indaciter.

Above pics are just some testing to see what led's would look best, and just to get an idea of what the finished product might look like.
After getting all the electronics hooked up and running, powered up the coil to see what it'd look like with all the lights on, and set up for final tuning without the primary coil powered up.

After testing standard operations, I went to test audio modulation and blew up the amplifier circuit and breaking off a lead from the fet from moving it around angry , replacing the fet, and deciding to wait till later to add a new audio modulation circuit. We end up with the finished product running and a video of me holding a piece of secondary wire that broke off.

The wire in the video is spinning from the corona discharge off the end of wire!(Sorry for poor video quality, had to reduce resolution on the camera to get more then 15secs worth of video tongue )

I like the plexi / lexan look!

Your coil has a nice look to it.

Maybe someday I will venture into solid state coils, for now I am way into VTTC's

Good luck with your new toy and congratulations. tongue

Well Decided to fidget with the Tesla coil, tryed a few things that were suggested. Removed 1 primary winding to try for more power, result, Didn't even produce corona. Attempt 2 was to adjust coupling of primary and secondary, Result moving the coil up about 1.5-2.5inchs yeilds 1-1.5" banjo arcs to air. Adding a 12v wall wart in series with the changed coupling gives 1.5-2" arcs to air. Adding a 24v 500mA wall wart in parralel with the 12v 1A wall wart and in series with the PSU, and the changed coupling gives nice 2-2.5" banjo arcs to air. With the toroid on and the increased power I can produce 3-4" arcs to ground! amazed Also apparently my feed back antenna likes to discharge when I power up the coil for the 1st time, Its just a quick burst but I'm a bit concerned that, that will effect profermance and longjevity.

Took some long exposure pics and a vid. Link2

Lemme Know if the video works, I seem to be having issues with the link.
