I did it in about 2 to 3 weeks!! im VERY surprised it actually works here is the layout
1175737771 577 FT0 P4040035

the coil is the BIGGEST part as in most important i tried 3 other coils before saying "forget making coil im just going to use the WHOLE spool of wire that i have here it is
1175737771 577 FT0 P4040031

the spark gap got complicated because i decided to use a CPU heat sink because 9000 volts heats metal up fast
1175737771 577 FT0 P4040032

the 3 caps i have 2 are pickle jars and 1 is a beer bottle
1175737771 577 FT0 P4040033
and here are the future caps i am going to add into the circuit to see if the heating goes faster

1175737771 577 FT0 P4040034

i dont have any red hot metal pics yet because it would take about 20 min ( im guessing and exaggerating)

i hope you like it i sure do

*UPDATE*

Here are the new caps i added

1175873745 577 FT23093 P4060039

here is the BIGGEST bottle i had in the previous picture of "future caps"

1175873897 577 FT23093 Smer

here is a link to a short vid i took of it running BEFORE i added the new caps

the new caps make a REALLY loud bang

Andrew probably means it looks rather haphazard and even hazardous. dead
I suggest you study some other inducton heaters on the net.
Here's a link to Richie's site.

Take a look at his coil and how long it takes! neutral

pipe down Andrew...
I helped Ryan build this contraption (well, gave guidance online), and he did put some effort into making it work. Sure it isn't a CNC mill, but it is probably about as good as the first thing you built back when you were 16 out of the junk you could find laying around the house. I know it totally owns my first tesla coil that gave .3" sparks. tongue

In any case, the huge coil of wire is probably a sign of being horribly designed, and you probably need more caps to get the full power out of your transformer.

BTW, the only thing in common with this heater and Richies is that they are induction heaters, and comparing them would be like comparing a torch to a laser.

Is that why I keep setting the bush on fire when I go camping. tongue
I was more refering to the coil used and cap size. I could have refered to
powerlabs site but....well.

Richie is feeding his coil with well under 100v, where we are using over 10kv here, which gave the large difference in cap/coil size. No comment tords Sam.
