I think the inrush current blew it, I wasn't using any protection on the circuit. Also the mosfets were still cool after a few minutes of pulling arcs. The frequency is adjustable with the first driver I posted, the one I used now is fixed at 40-50 kHz, its meant for a smps anyway. I used the internal primary.

Ask yourself why.
I wouldnt suspect that as the cause, since the inrush current simply charges the DC filter caps, and doesnt mean that the bridge has to do anything particularly stressful.

Turns out I had put some unnecessary zeners on the output of the GDT, which shorted, messing up the drive signals. The good thing is I got to test it some more at near max power. The arcs are very hot, capable of welding the alligator clips shut. I also got several plasma "puffs", which one can see on the video. (you might need quicktime, its .3gp) The power levels must have been to high though, because flyback boiled, you can see some of the smoke at the very end. However the driver was left intact which is a good sign. I was using the internal primary again. ]
