HOW COULD IT HAVE TAKEN 12 YEARS?

In physics (electromagnetic induction, specifically). All books and universities teach that in about the year 1819, that Oersted discovered that a steady electric current produces a steady magnetic field. I think he simply placed a current-carrying wire near a compass. Then Micheal Faraday (and countless other scientists) assumed that a steady magnetic field must be able to produce an electric current. It is known how meticulous Faraday was with his experiments, BTW. He simply placed a loop of wire with a series galvanometer around a solenoid (or something similar), and connected a switch in series with the solenoid and battery as to energize the solenoid. When this was all set up, he simply closed the switch to look for a constant current in the test wire.
Every college course or book goes on and on about how long it took (12 YEARS!) to find ANY conclusion. Of course it had to be a CHANGING magnetic field di/dt>0 to produce any deflection in the galvanometer. Years ago, I have reproduced many of his experiments done during those 12 years, including the world's 1st electric motor, whose conducting 'wire' spins as it follows the circular magnetic field (Oersted) of a current-carrying wire.
The thing that seemed impossible to have taken over a decade of hard, serious work, to find, was the obvious 'jumping' of the galvanometer as the switch was closed--or opened. I would have guessed that this pulse (VERY OBVIOUS!), would have been noticed in the first few days (if not hours!) into the research once it was set up.
Believe me, it is VERY, VERY, obvious!

You will recently have witnessed many events that are not simply explained,
- what discoveries have you made and documented so far ?
and, they could not buy enammeled copper wire, or batteries, via eBay ;)

read how they did their experiments, mentally re-create their environment,
then add in the common desire to fully understand and develop a discovery before publishing it
- someone else may be remembered in history - or worse - get the prize/cash/glory.

Faraday linked five different kinds of electricity together as one in the same.
Perhaps when next April fool's day rolls around someone will demonstrate that
funding was granted to find the sixth.

Thanks radiotech, anyone have any more details--the kind that are hard to find in typical books?

Faraday's writings were published in multi volume sets that
were available in most libraries.

To get into his mindset in the period, the necessity of
unifying phenomena should be known, and then applied
to some method of finding a variance.
