MO inverter as CCFL inverter

I have acquired a working microwave oven inverter (Panasonic oven, 1.3kW inverter). I have lots of CCFLs from LCD TVs (40-60cm long, 3-4mm diameter). Would it be possible to take the AC output of the inverter (from before the greinacher doubler) and drive some of these CCFLs with it, with capacitors in series with the tubes of course.

Do anyone have any good information on these inverters? I'm mainly interested in what topology they are based on, how well they handle short circuits on the output (arcing) and what kind of power factor and efficiency they have.

MO inverters are just a high voltage source, right?
for CCFL tubes you need AC ignition adn current limiting.

I have never seen an inverter microwave, so I can't really comment about the circuitry, however...

if you have trouble making it run, I would suggest rebuilding the driver as a mazzilli circuit. I believe that TDU (err ANTS) did this using a minimum of external parts. This will let you run the transformer at its maximum potential, or let you turn it down to only give out a few watts (variac+diodes+cap)

I also worry that you won't have quite enough voltage to get the tube to strike, however I may be wrong...

As ... stated, the inverter supplies look easy to use but have a logic line controlling them. Despite them being an attractive proposition as a ready made half bridge supply, unless you can work out the drive you will have a problem running it as such. Most of the parts of the ZVS driver can be made from one inverter so that seems an easy way to go.

Getting it to work shouldn't be a problem, I still have the front panel/timer of the oven, and neither the front panel nor the inverter is broken. I even have access to a service manual for the microwave oven.

I also think that it would work, although you may need to ballast it externally (not hard at high freq's) if output leakage inductance isn't enough.
At these frequencies tube should fire well at those 2kV or etc.

They are designed to run at their full power continuously and few hundred miliamps of output shouldn't be a problem there. (tube would probably blow up before the inverter).
