I have had great success with these, 1200v / 30a I used 18v 5w zeners antiparallel with 300ohm resistors and roughly 100uh inductor... I never went past 40v input and could pull 10 = 12" arcs off my flyback... which is medium sized from rear projection tv In Action small jaccobs ladder I'll check in later to make sure vids are viewable...

That looks like a very good choice for a Mazzilli driver.
For some reason I had it in my head that I want to go with something in an SOT-227 package; maybe it's because of the fairly massive heat sink I have lying around here that I was planning to use.
But I think I'm almost ready to give up on that idea.
Check out this IGBT: And it's only $3.49.
I don't have much experience with IGBTs but that seems like a lot of performance for a small price.
