Hi all. My friendly local computer repair guy has at least ten DV6000 HP's, mostly AMD based 6500s. All of which have the dreaded "three flash of doom" or "no screen" fault. He seems reluctant to just dump them as they have some value, just not as laptops.
Can anyone think of a use? Obviously the screens may be worth something as are the webcams, BIOS (4MB), I2C microphones and Bluetooth modules for model boat control etc. RAM has already been salvaged as they are 1GB DDR2 which work in most other machines. Batteries may or may not be present, as they sometimes get "recycled". HDDs if present are pre-nuked and 80-160 GB, if not I can use a pendrive and Damn Small Linux
I thought maybe harvest all the screens and make a wall sized panel with them, with some clever software to display different data on each a la "Back to the Future 2".
Another option is to reflow all the Nvidia chips and then make a cluster machine with n dual core CPUs for simulations etc. Laptop motherboards are nice for this because they are relatively self contained and often can be fitted in a vertical stack with spacers and liquid coolers mounted on each layer for a small assembly.
