Well, if you are trying to trigger the SCR with 7V, I recommend to use resistor, you now...
Howhether, without the datasheet I can tell no more.

Instead of using a switch to disconnect the second capacitor from the charger, you could simply use some diodes in series with each capacitor bank stage. That way, when you are firing, one capacitor will not discharge on the other stage, and vice versa, they will also be charged at the same voltage.

that makes sense, thanks i was sure there was an easier way. Could you elaborate for me a little, what rating of diodes would i need

You just put in diode in series with each capacitor stage, from your charger to your capacitor. The diode rating : it must withstand your capacitor voltage, and charging current, that's all.

It's all explained here : Link2

so for some reason i keep killing my diodes ?!? it was working perfectly and somewhere along the link some sparks flew cause by arcing and what not. after checking the circuitry everything checked out or works as it should but now the diode separates the banks when it chargers but not when it fires O.o weird.

I was using uf4007 diodes then i used a bigger version like a 6 amp still same thing happened

I don't get it, did you put your diode the exact same way the link showed ? If the diodes are carrying the main current when you are firing, then you might have placed them in the wrong way, or in the wrong location.

While i was charging the caps my auto multimeter function switched to AC and then back to DC a couple times (reading AC when it should only be DC) i wonder if the bridge is bad, can the uf4007 withstand 600VAC
