Hi all. Did anyone read the articles suggesting that 0.01% of graphite powder treated with pure water appears to exhibit superconductor-like properties up to 300K?
This got me thinking, pyrolytic graphite is essentially a compressed form of this. So if a piece was immersed in an electrolyte containing metal ions, they should intercalate into the graphite and change its properties.
The high purity graphite used in Li-Ion batteries might also be worth trying this with, once rinsed and suitably cleaned it could host a number of metal ions such as barium and magnesium, once dried this would then set into a lattice.
Could this approach be a cheap way to explore high temperature superconductivity without the requirement of long annealing processes?

Graphene does show exotic superconductor like properties, but is not really that well understood yet.... So, expense of synthesis will likely make the successful yield rather low for research purposes.
