Hello all my high voltage peeps!! With Spring coming, I'd like to *finally* resume experiments with my discharge system.
Right now, my bank is wired as a bunch of parallel strings in series, like this:
Should I instead re-buss them so that they are a bunch of series strings in parallel?
I'm wondering based on what I've seen in battery packs. Some are wired one way and some the other, though most I've seen are series of paralleled cells. I'm trying to determine what would result in less cap reversing during discharge.

Wow what a capacitor bank!!! And good to see you posting again! The coilgun you made years ago was a huge inspiration for my last project.
My opinion on the capacitor bank: I say leave it how it is, I'd rather see more time and effort put into using it to blow stuff up, rather than re-bussing it.

I would say leave it as it is. If you put series strings in parallel it would be more likely for some caps to get overvolted due to different capacitances. The way you have it now, each mini-bank has a much closer tolerance to the nominal value because any differences mostly cancel out. This keeps the voltages on each mini-bank close to each other.

Reminds me of mine, but mines only 48 caps...I did series parallel, so i could charge to about 3KV for a little extra kick. I think what you have is plenty fine, and it seems to work great for you, and blew up a lot of things :)
