Just recieved another E-mail from RS:

Welcome to the latest Raspberry Pi update from RS!

We’ve had a lot of questions about when you will be able to place orders for a Raspberry Pi from RS. When the Raspberry Pi was launched we decided not to take orders and payment up front until we knew when stock would be available and be in a position to give you accurate delivery information. With the first batch of boards due to arrive into RS warehouses soon, we’ve started to contact the people who are at the front of our queue, so they know they are first in line to get a Raspberry Pi board. They will shortly be invited to place their order on our dedicated RS Raspberry Pi store, and will be despatched to customers on a first-come, first-served basis in line with customer registrations.

As we receive delivery dates for the following batches we will contact those next in line to let them know when they can place an order. This way, you know that when you purchase your Raspberry Pi from RS, we have the stock coming shortly to fulfill your order. When placing an order for the Raspberry Pi, payment and delivery details will be taken, and we’ll let you know when you can expect to receive your Raspberry Pi. An email will then notify you when it has been despatched, along with a tracking number for you to check the status of your delivery.

When they say: "it can do many of the things a PC can do", do they mean i can run c libraries for the MS Kinnect?

if so, this would be so cool!!! id put one on my drone! (i really need vision based sensing but with out the WiFi connection.)

If the Raspberry wont work i guess ill use a laptop cutting off everything i dont need.

I'm pretty certain I read you can program it in C++. I'm assuming this means it is suitable for your application. I think the processor speed is around 700mHz (I believe someone else mentioned this above). It does have limited processing power, so the vision sensing may be limited.

I recieved this today:

"We're delighted to inform you that you are now able to place your order for a Raspberry Pi model B board from RS Components. Please click on the button below"

And so did my girlfriend.

They've not given a delivery date, though.

@Nicko: Have you fired your's up yet?

EDIT: Just placed my order. They say I should have it within 6 weeks.

Not had a chance yet. Just too many other things on the go - SWMBO has tasked me with finishing a few key projects first...

A single board computer with specs like this is defiantly impressive (minus the low I/O count). But I would defiantly not call it an arduino killer, or a killer of any other uController projects. This would be overkill for almost everything I've ever done with a uController. Sometimes the low level control of a uController is more sexy than an operating system though. Still very cool. Would have been a great brain for the UAV.

I found this 3D PDF model online. It's supposed to be the most accurate yet of the Pi.

I was looking for a DXF file, but this wasv the best I could find. I'm currently using it as a model to construct my own DXF model, which I'll post in due course. (I'm starting to design an enclosure for mine when it arrives in a few weeks).

I don't suppose anyone has the technology to convert this to a DXF file for me?

]raspberrypi_b.pdf[/file]

(You click on it to open the 3D model, then click on the image, and you can rotate it, zoom, highlight components, etc.)
